Homework Hotline Live – one-on-one homework help to students who call the hotline number at 301-279-3234 plus additional homework links.

B.J. Pinchbeck’s Homework Helper – get help from a high school student who created and maintains this website.

Infoplease – a site providing reliable information, in a way that engages and entertains.

Kid Info – excellent starting points for students, teachers, and parents who want to spend "quality" time on the web. Offers links curriculum related topics.

Would you like to view a magazine online? The following magazines for kids are now available electronically for assignments and/or reading pleasure.

American Girl – Magazine fostering girls’ individuality, intellectual curiosity, and imagination.

Kids’ Castle – Smithsonian publication for children featuring sports, history, the arts, travel, science and air and space, all with great photos.

National Geographic Kids – Interactive multi-topic magazine covering animals, entertainment, science, technology, current events, and cultures from around the world for ages 8-14.

Owl Kids – Discovery magazine for kids interested in nature, science, and the world around them.

Ranger Rick – Nature magazine for kids featuring amazing stories, fantastic photos and great games.

Sports Illustrated For Kids – Sports news, games, trivia, and more.

Time For Kids – News, information, and exploration for kids plus Homework Helper link, created by Time magazine.

Weekly Reader – Newspaper for children in elementary school.

Subscription Services:

Need information for an assignment or just curious about a certain topic? The following online subscription services are available on all Mission School computers. These resources are also available for home use.

Accunet/ AP Multimedia Archive - AP photos with reported/caption text, graphics, charts, tables, maps, timelines.

AccuWeather- Weather forecasts by Zip code or location name plus headlines; satellite imagery maps.

Enciclopedia Universal en Espanol - Britannica's Spanish language encyclopedia.

Encyclopaedia Britannica Online School Edition - four encyclopedias plus an Internet guide, atlas, and videos. Includes study guides and exercises.

Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia – a general encyclopedia useful for a wide range of age and ability levels. There are many pre-selected WWW sites appropriate for chosen topics. There are also monthly features and current events sections.

New Book of Knowledge Online – provides the same features as other encyclopedias; however, it is most appropriate for elementary students, ESOL students, and others due to simpler readability levels.

Newsbank Infoweb - SchoolMate Kids Page– an online newspaper and magazine database. Primary source information covers virtually all subject areas and is updated daily. Includes lesson plans for top news stories.

SIRS Discoverer – Provides access to magazine and newspaper articles selected by subject, with strong curriculum integration and expanded access to expository reading materials.

World Book Online – General encyclopedia useful for wide variety of age and ability levels. Includes pre-selected WWW sites appropriate for curriculum topics as well as a monthly feature and current events.

World Book Spanish Student Discovery Encyclopedia – General background information in Spanish. Less comprehensive than World Book Online.

Do you need a student-friendly search tool that will make looking for information easier?

AskJeeves for Kids – easy, kid-friendly way to find relevant and appropriate answers to questions on the web.

CyberSleuth Kids – directory of web sites for K-12 students, created by a teacher and maintained by volunteers. All sites are reviewed and organized into logical categories.

KidsClick – a web search created for students by librarians.

Yahooligans – an extensive search directory for kids. Search by keyword or category. Site includes many games, cartoons, school topics.

Do you need a photograph or image for a project or report?

AwesomeClipart for Kids - Kid and family friendly clip art & icons.

MCPS Digital Vertical File - database of photographs, clip art, sounds, streaming movies, and other multimedia created by staff and students. The DVF interface was created by Web Services in collaboration with the Digital Vertical File Team. Its more than 1,000 files may be used by students and staff for educational purposes.
